Spouts Inn
Sprouts Inn is a casual sit-down restaurant on the North side of town. It is somewhat of a Quincy staple, so I've been meaning to visit and try their food for a while now. The lunch special on the day that I went was a 6 ounce beef tenderloin steak with asparagus. I got a house salad with some of that creamy buttermilk ranch, and a side of mashed potatoes and gravy as well.
I added some sautéed red onions for my steak for 75 cents extra, which really made the flavor of the beef pop. The tenderloin is a lean cut of meat, so the flavor wasn't rich like a rib eye, but it tasted really great nevertheless, especially with those caramelized onions on top. The asparagus on the side was topped with a béchamel sauce tasted good, although I expected more from an in-season vegetable like asparagus. They were really thin and cooked just a bit too long. The mashed potatoes was standard cafeteria fare. I doubt the gravy is made on site, and the potatoes tasted like dried instant mashed potatoes. They weren't awful, just mediocre.
Overall I think the meal was pretty good. Nothing blew me away, but I ate everything that was served. It was a good portion for a lunch meal, not too heavy and not too rich, the seating was comfortable and the atmosphere was very relaxed. I can see why Sprouts has become a staple here in Quincy.
I have also heard good things about their pies, but I was already running late so I didn't have time for dessert.
Here's some pictures of the meal:
