Mi Jalapeño
Mi Jalapeño is a swanky Mexican eatery on 31st and Broadway. It is a small Midwestern chain restaurant, made apparent by its manicured and refined look and feel. The inside is clean and modern, the booths were comfortable and private, and the atmosphere was relaxed (aside from the screaming children across the restaurant). The menu mirrors most other Mexican restaurants. There are the combo specials at the front, where you can get your standard tacos, burritos, and enchiladas quite cheaply, and then a regular menu with all the unique items.
We started off with some margaritas, which packed quite a punch, and were very sweet.
We also got chips and salsa as an appetizer, which was identical to the chips and salsa we got at Maya. The salsa comes out in a plastic jar, and the chips are warm and salty. I already wrote about how much I loved the salsa in the Maya review, so if you want more descriptives of the salsa, check that review out.
I ordered the Jalapeño Chicken because it was named after the restaurant and because it looked really good. It was slices of chicken cooked with mushrooms and spinach in a cheese sauce, and came with lettuce, Mexican rice, sour cream, three tortillas, and some pico de gallo salsa.
The chicken by itself is really rich and insanely salty, but it makes an absolutely killer taco filling when you put it in a tortilla and cut the richness and salt with the pico de gallo and sour cream. The rice that comes with the meal is light and almost melts in your mouth. It has a mild flavor, but is really delicious.
The meal was really excellent, and with the chips and salsa appetizer you end up getting copious amount of food very cheaply.
Here are some pictures of the chips and salsa, and of the entrée:
